Another Year Over, And A New One On The Way

2007 is almost here, at least in my part of the world. I’m sure most of us are getting ready to usher in the new year with a bang. We’ve probably already thought about our New Year’s Resolutions, and doubted in the back of our minds that we’ll actually keep them. For those of you that make good on your resolutions, good on ya!

The bringing in of a New Year has always been a time to reflect on the previous year for me. All the good, bad, and indifferent events. The happy times, and sad ones. 2006 was a pretty good year for me personally. Hey, I survived it didn’t I? I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe 2007.

And lets not forget about all those that are less fortunate. It’s a New Year for them too, and hopefully this year will be a better one than 2006.

Why Are We Humans So Stupid

Well, the stupidity of the human nature has reared it’s ugly head once again!

I’m speaking about the tragic death of Steve ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin. While filming an episode for his extremely popular nature program, he was suddenly struck in the heart by the poisenous barb of a Stingray’s tail off the coast of Australia. Eyewitness accounts of the event all reported that in no way was Steve threatening, or intimidating the animal at the time. The Stingray just acted in self defense, only the Stingray knows why. It happens.

In the past few days, dead Stingrays have been washing ashore on the beaches of Australia. Some of them with their tails cut off. That’s right! It seems there are possies of Red Neck Australians hunting down Stingrays to avenge Steve’s death! Give your head a shake people! It seems the extremely docile Stingray has now been put into the category of ‘Man Eater/Attacker’, and is being hunted because of the label!

Sharks are probably the most feared and hunted fish in the sea. Why? Probably because of the shark attacks on surfers. From underneath, the Shark doesn’t know the difference between a swimmer and lunch. It is just trying to survive. But man views it differently. We see them as a predator to man, so it must be destroyed. We are the only animal on this Earth that kills out of revenge.

This way of thinking will be our demise. Why is it that every time a person (famous or infamous) dies because of an attack from an animal, we as humans go into ‘Genocide Mode’? “Kill ‘em all, what are they good for”, is the usual cry reported in the media from one-toothed morons who have a hard time spelling their first names!

It’s not enough that we persecute our own kind, we now deem it our responsibility to persecute animals which are lower down in the food chain than us! If we are truly charged with being the custodians of this Earth, we should be fired! We are doing a piss poor job.

One more thing. After the Earth shakes us off it’s skin like the bad rash that we are, we’ll be gone. But the Shark will still be here because it’s a survivor

1 Year Anniversary since Katrina hit New Orleans

After a year since Mother Nature unleashed her fury on the US Gulf Coast, did you remember where you were last year? What you were doing when the news hit and were you thanking God you didn’t live there? I did.

And today, just like 365 days ago my feelings of sadness for all who were being affected by Katrina turned to anger as I watched the most powerful, wealthiest country in the world turn a blind eye towards it’s own people in their gravest hour of need. I remember sitting in awe as I watched the storm obliterate people’s lives.

Then I watched in disgust as the media seemed almost as voracious as Katrina as they scrambled to leave no stone unturned in their ‘human tragedy’ stories. Helicopters with cameras rolling hovering over people stranded on their roof tops. Camera crews on the ground capturing on film desperate people in desperate times struggling to survive. Depicting how the survivors had been reduced to wild animals in the struggle to survive.

The rampant looting footage made for some very captivating headlines on the 6 o’clock news. The victims, and survivors of Hurricane Katrina were quickly reduced to what seemed like a horrible experiment, by some ungodly being. Where was the help? Was it coming? When? I’m sure as Marine 1 was hovering overhead with the President and his advisors looking down upon the survivors, they were consoled with the fact that their suffering would soon end. That indeed their leaders would not allow them to suffer very much longer. That yes, the most powerful, wealthiest country in the world would free every resource at it’s disposal to make the suffering end. 1 more hour? 2 more hours? 6, 10, surely not more than 24 hours could go by without some sign of help coming? Could it?

Instead the cameras kept rolling, documenting the tragedy, the loss of life, all the while trying to take attention away from the ineptitude of the very Government Department established to aid the people in this type of situation. FEMA had been uncloaked as a mismanaged Governmet money pit. A false security blanket had been laid upon a nation still greiving from the effects of 9/11.

We all watched as the infighting and finger pointing in the Government started to take over the headlines as to who was ultimately responsible for the incompetance called FEMA. People continued to suffer all the while. The world had a laugh at the Government’s expense.

It’s been a year since the world witnessed the carnage left behind by Katrina. A city still lay in ruins. People’s lives, hopes and dreams still sit waiting for their Government’s help. 1 more day? 1 more month? 6, 8, surely not more than 12 more months could go by before help is on the way? Could it?
