The World Loses a Comic Genious
For those of you that are fans of comedian Richard Jeni, you know what a loss we all suffered last Saturday.
I was shocked when I learned of the news of his passing. Snippets of his comedy routines flashed through my memory as if I just heard them yesterday. He was a funny man who had a gift he shared with all of us. I was even more shocked to learn that he took his own life. This I had a hard time comprehending. How could a man with the the great gift of making people laugh take his own life? I was in denial. I immediately started looking around the web for news. All I found was speculation this, and speculation that.
His website was taken off line. It only displayed a grey background with his name on it. I was still in denial, there was no way I was going to believe Richard commited suicide. No Way. Until today. I browsed to his website again, where there is now posted an explanation from his family confirming, that yes indeed Richard did take his own life. I sunk deep in my chair as I read the web page. I went from being in denial to trying to feel how hurt and devistated his family must have been not only at his passing, but also explaining to his fans what really happened.
He was recently diagnosed with clinical depression. End of explanation for me. I didn’t need to know anymore. For any of you who have freinds, or family with this illness, I’m sure you can relate to what his family is going through. My prayers and thoughts go out to Richard’s family. Be strong.
To Richard: Thank you for the laughs. And as Gerry Garcia once said “May the four winds blow you safely home”. If any body is interseted, here is Richard’s website. Please sign the Memorial Guestbook if you like.
