Globetrotting TB patient needs to be punished

The Atlanta man, knowing he had TB, decided to travel to Europe for his honeymoon, then upon learning of his impending quarantine and confinement by Italian health authorities, he fled back to the U.S. on a dangerous “country hopping” trip.

This man, who authorities refuse to name, has endangered the health of countless innocent and unsuspecting travelers because of his ignorance and selfishness by exposing them to an extremely contagious disease, which he knew he was infected with.

Now health authorities in several European countries, Canada, and the U.S. are scrambling to locate people he may have come in contact with during his trip to notify them to get tested for the infectious disease.

The man who is now in isolation in an Atlanta hospital receiving treatment, is puzzled why there is an armed guard standing outside his hospital room, saying “This is insane to me that I have an armed guard outside my door when I’ve cooperated with everything other than the whole solitary confinement in Italy thing,”

Because you have shown a total disrespect for human health, and have fled before knowing that you are contagious is why you have an armed guard at your door you dip-wad!

Unfortunately the man has been diagnosed with extensive drug-resistant TB, or XDR TB. Treatment requires 18 to two years of a mixture of four to six drugs, may require surgery, and cost upwards of $500,000 per patient. Try explaining that to a tourist or businessman who was unknowingly sitting beside him on a transatlantic flight from Europe to Canada fleeing from health authorities in Europe. And he wonders why there is an armed guard at his door.

This man should be punished for his actions of the potential infection of countless lives because of his selfishness and ignorance. How about paying the hospital bills of everyone he infected with TB? At $500,000 a person, that would be a penalty that would be a constant, life long lesson.

On the plus side though, this man exposed severe vulnerabilities in the Government’s Border Protection protocols because even though his passport was “flagged”, and he was put on a no-fly list, he still managed to fly from Rome to Prague, to Montreal, and then drive across the U.S. border to New York without being detected by the U.S. Border Patrol Agents!

Yup, the U.S. Border’s are secure alright!

Ambulance chasing Lawyer should be familiar with the law

Turns out the globetrotting TB carrier was a lawyer! Not just any lawyer, but a “personal injury Lawyer”, aka ambulance chaser.

Andrew Speaker, who practices law with his father at the Speaker Law Firm, has been identified by CNN as the idiot who put hundreds of lives at stake by his negligence.

I’d link to the law firm’s website, but for some reason it is unavailable! I wonder why?

Being a lawyer, you would think he would have some notion as what “responsibility” means. But then again, he’s only an ambulance chasing personal injury lawyer, so how much could he REALLY know about responsibility and the law?

His actions only make him stupider in light of the fact he actually has (or should I say had) a law degree!

Security flaws confirmed on Flight 327

Our Government would want us to believe that the skies are friendly and safe. “There will never be another high jacking of a commercial airplane in American airspace again,” they told us just shortly after airlines began flying again after 9/11. Improvements in airport security, mechanical and screening procedures were promised, as well as fortified cockpit doors were to be mandatory. Air Marshalls on all flights were also promised to protect passengers from anybody who might “try” something. And last but not least, the Government was also going to implement more stringent bureaucratic agencies to prevent the unthinkable from happening again.

For awhile we felt safer; things were getting back to normal. We were getting used to having to walk through airport security checkpoints almost naked to show that we weren’t concealing any contraband articles. Sure it was an inconvenience, but we wanted to be safe, right? So if it meant being inconvenienced a little, we were ready to make the sacrifice.

With a plethora of Governmental Security Agencies working behind the scenes on the ground, the top notch well trained security screeners at the airports, the armed Air Marshals sitting somewhere amongst the passengers on the plane, as well as the fortified cockpit door separating the pilots from the cabin, what could go wrong?

In a report released by the inspector general, obtained from a Freedom of Information request by the Washington Times, shows some very serious shortcomings and vulnerabilities of the Government’s promised airline security procedures.

The report chronicled the events of Flight 327 from Detroit to Los Angeles in 2004, when reports of “suspicious passengers” activities were downplayed by Homeland Security officials calling the claims “hysterical.” Claims by fellow passengers, Flight Crew, and Air Marshals of 13 Middle Eastern men behaving suspiciously on a plane need to be investigated, not brushed under the carpet and labeled as “paranoid” or “hysterical” by Homeland Security officials.

“On the flight, 13 Middle Eastern men behaved in a suspicious manner that aroused the attention and concern of the flight attendants, passengers, air marshals and pilots,” the report said. The men “walked in the aisle, appearing to count passengers,” and “several men spent excessive time in the lavatories.”
“One man rushed to the front of the plane appearing to head for the cockpit. At the last moment, he veered into the first-class lavatory, remaining in it for about 20 minutes,” according to the report. One man carried a McDonald’s bag into the lavatory, and “another man, upon returning from the lavatory, reeked strongly of what smelled like toilet bowl chemicals.”
“Some men hand signaled each other. The passenger who entered the lavatory with the McDonald’s bag made a thumbs-up signal to another man upon returning from the lavatory. Another man made a slashing motion across his throat, appearing to say ‘No.’ ”

I really fail to see how this type of activity can go un-investigated. But not only were these 13 people not detained, but only two were questioned.

The report shows that the Government’s bureaucratic airline “security machine” is in need of repair, and quickly.

China sentences top drug regulator to death

As China desperately tries to clean up its image over its poor food safety record, it needed a fall guy, and they found one.

Zheng Xiaoyu was convicted and sentenced “on charges of taking bribes and dereliction of duty.” The sentence handed down was death.

The only problem with this plan is that Zheng Xiaoyu was convicted over charges that took place 2 years ago.

I fail to see how his death will solve China’s present day food safety problems, but as we all know the Chinese Government works a little strangely at times.

New Vice for Vegas has Vice Vexed!

I”m a pretty easy going guy; just ask any body who knows me. But when I read this news story from Las Vegas this morning, I was forced to contemplate the deterioration of the moral fabric of our society.

The story portrays the height of laziness of some of our younger, able bodied Brothers and Sisters we live amongst. It seems that the Las Vegas environment is too much of a strain on some of the physically abled tourists who visit the strip and casinos, so they opt for a mobilized mode of transportation to get them around!

“It was all the walking, and now I can drink and drive, be responsible and save my feet,” said 27-year-old Simon Lezama while sitting on his red Merits Pioneer 3. Mr. Lezama appeared to be fit and trim; his only handicap seemed to be his laziness.

The words “drinking and driving” in the same sentence can hardly be viewed as responsible, but he doesn’t seem like the type of person to really care about being responsible, or his image.

The reason this gets under my skin so much, is that recently I suffered an injury which required me to rely on the use of a wheelchair to get around. Let me tell you, I now have a deeper appreciation for the people that rely on these vehicles for their independence every day. For those in our society that rely on wheelchairs for their mobility, it’s a necessity, not an option.

It”s easy to understand why Americans continue to balloon towards obesity (projections indicate 73% of Americans will be obese or overweight by 2008) when you have people that are too lazy to walk from point A to B.

In the case of Simon Lezama, he would rather ride around the casinos on his scooter/wheelchair chugging down beers thinking he is being responsible to his feet by not having to walk!

I have one thing to say to these people. Put your beers down, get off your lazy asses and walk from the poker tables to the baccarat tables. Don’t be shy; you can walk from casino A to Casino B. If you get tired, you can always stop and take a rest. Your in Vegas after all, what else are you going to do?
