New Vice for Vegas has Vice Vexed!
I”m a pretty easy going guy; just ask any body who knows me. But when I read this news story from Las Vegas this morning, I was forced to contemplate the deterioration of the moral fabric of our society.
The story portrays the height of laziness of some of our younger, able bodied Brothers and Sisters we live amongst. It seems that the Las Vegas environment is too much of a strain on some of the physically abled tourists who visit the strip and casinos, so they opt for a mobilized mode of transportation to get them around!
“It was all the walking, and now I can drink and drive, be responsible and save my feet,” said 27-year-old Simon Lezama while sitting on his red Merits Pioneer 3. Mr. Lezama appeared to be fit and trim; his only handicap seemed to be his laziness.
The words “drinking and driving” in the same sentence can hardly be viewed as responsible, but he doesn’t seem like the type of person to really care about being responsible, or his image.
The reason this gets under my skin so much, is that recently I suffered an injury which required me to rely on the use of a wheelchair to get around. Let me tell you, I now have a deeper appreciation for the people that rely on these vehicles for their independence every day. For those in our society that rely on wheelchairs for their mobility, it’s a necessity, not an option.
It”s easy to understand why Americans continue to balloon towards obesity (projections indicate 73% of Americans will be obese or overweight by 2008) when you have people that are too lazy to walk from point A to B.
In the case of Simon Lezama, he would rather ride around the casinos on his scooter/wheelchair chugging down beers thinking he is being responsible to his feet by not having to walk!
I have one thing to say to these people. Put your beers down, get off your lazy asses and walk from the poker tables to the baccarat tables. Don’t be shy; you can walk from casino A to Casino B. If you get tired, you can always stop and take a rest. Your in Vegas after all, what else are you going to do?
