Another Bushy Bites the Dust! Who’s Next?

Paul Wolfowitz is gone, and not soon enough!

Wolfowitz’s last official day as president of the World Bank is June 30 of this year. Let’s hope he takes a leave of absence effectively immediately so the institution can start the healing fumigation process. Oops, I mean the healing process.

The only thing to worry about now, is who Bush is going to replace him with. Let’s face the facts. Bush is a lame duck President. He’s used up all of his political clout. There’s nothing left in the tank. Wolfowitz’s appointment was just another example of Bush’s inability to select the right man (or woman) for the job. It’s obvious when Bush selects people to fill important positions or posts, he relies more on favors owed than actual credentials.

Paul Wolfowitz had no prior experience in finance, poverty-fighting, or development, but yet landed the job as President of the World Bank, which was created specifically to fight poverty in under developed countries, and also provide funds to develop said countries with no interest loans. Was Paul Wolfowitz qualified to be President of the World Bank? Not at all. Was Mike Brown qualified to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency? We all know the answer to that question. Bush just continues his long litany of favoritism.

Well, who’s gonna be the next President of the World Bank? The Bush family private Gardner? Or how about his Barber? Laura Bush’s Manicurist? I”ll bet you that Cheney and Rove will be able to find another unqualified, corrupt Bushy that needs a favor repaid!

Indian fisherman threaten to kill whale sharks

In what amounts to environmental extortion, fisherman along India’s western coast are threatening to kill hundreds of whale sharks if they do not receive the fuel subsidies promised by the government three years ago.

Might I suggest to the fisherman of Gujarat to take their political battle elsewhere. The whale shark is a threatened species and can not afford to be innocently targeted.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Holding the lives of whale sharks hostage over your battle with the government for fuel subsidies is ludicrous. I”m sure you feel lied to, betrayed, and neglected by your government, but get used to it. Every government in the world is going to lie, betray, and neglect it’s citizens sooner or later regardless of what you do. Killing one whale shark will be in vain, and not get you any closer to achieving your goal.

I’m sure the Chinese are salivating uncontrollably waiting to see how this saga unfolds. Either way, it’s a no win situation for everybody involved if the fishermen make good on their threat. The whale shark especially will have the most to lose.

China now exporting DDT contaminated seafood

Its time for the Global Community to put their foot down and start putting pressure on China to clean up it’s exported foods act. If that means banning all foods imported from China until the situation gets better, then so be it. This situation is getting ridiculous!

Imported seafood from China has been found to contain Organochlorine pesticides such as DDT. A new study found samples from markets that contained concentrations of contaminants high enough to pose threats to human health.

This is DDT; nasty stuff people! And its finding it’s way onto our dinner tables from once again, food imported from China.

Samples of shrimps, crabs, and mollusks were analyzed for 21 organochlorine pesticides. Of those, DDT and HCH (hexachlorocyclohexane) were detected most frequently and measured at the highest concentrations. These highest concentrations were observed in mollusks, specifically oysters, mussels, and squid. Concentrations of DDT in some of this seafood were high enough to pose human health threats. Other organochlorine pesticides present were at concentrations high enough to pose human cancer risks.

China exports 3.2 million metric tons of seafood products, which is 10 percent of the global export volume. Exports primarily go to Japan, Korea, Canada, the United States, and the European Union.

Once again, the questionable quality of foods imported from China has put us on alert again. For the sake of our own and family’s health, its time to actively seek out and refuse to buy foods imported from China.

Wolfowitz needs to go away, Quickly!

I was sick and tired of listening to Paul Wolfowitz’s reasons for keeping his job as head of the World Bank. Now I’m sick and tired of listening to his pleas to be treated fairly.

It’s infuriating to watch this drama unfold. After being found guilty of conflicts of interest, by a group of his peers, rather than being honorable and stepping down, he claims he is the victim of a “smear campaign!”

Get over yourself Wolfowitz! The only smearing going on around you, is the spit you drag through your hair to keep your comb-over in check!

Regardless of what he says, or thinks about himself, he’s guilty as charged. Everybody knows he used his influence to get his girlfriend, Shah Riza, a nice big fat raise and promotion.

In a quote from the New York Times, Wolfowitz declares he had been “held up to public ridicule” and “caricatured as a “boyfriend” who used his position of power to help his “girlfriend,” Mr. Wolfowitz said that “for the sake of the bank, and for your sake, this process has to be fair. I implore each of you to be fair in making your decision, because your decision will not only affect my life, it will affect how this institution is viewed in the United States and the world,”

Fair? Now he thinks he should be treated fairly? He’s worried about the bank’s image as it’s viewed in the United States and the World, when he’s the one who’s tarnished it! What the hell is wrong with him? Does he have some sort of chemical imbalance that we should know about? He brought this whole mess upon himself, and now he wants to be able to ride off into the sunset like a white knight! Once again, get over yourself Wolfowitz!

So now that the cat is out of the bag, he wants to “negotiate” his resignation! Or rather the Bush administration wants to negotiate his resignation!

We all know that corruption breeds more corruption. So now all of a sudden the Bush administration is acting as Wolfowitz’s negotiating team, claiming that if the board cleared Mr. Wolfowitz of misconduct, or at least said he acted in good faith and was not corrupt, the administration , which previously had rebuffed all suggestions that he resign , would talk about him stepping down.

In a statement from the White House, spokesman Tony Snow claimed, “The fact is that he made mistakes. They are not, in our view, firing offenses.” Coming from the Bush camp, of course they are not firing offenses! Neither were Cheney’s, Gonzales’s, Rove’s, or a handful of other Bush cronies” corrupt actions! But we”ve come to expect this from Bush, so it’s of little surprise.

The bottom line is Wolfowitz needs to go. Not on his (or Bush’s) terms either. Someone needs to be waiting for Wolfowitz in the parking lot tomorrow morning when he arrives for work, and immediately serve him with his walking papers. Then have security bitch slap him and escort him to the rock of obscurity where he can sit and wait for the rest of the corrupt “Bushies” to join him.

Finally, some positive news coming out of China for a change!

A hospital group that is Hong Kong’s oldest and largest charitable organization has become the latest group to ban shark-fin soup from banquets, a newspaper reported Monday.

I know, I had to read it twice myself to make sure it wasn’t an illusion! But this is positive news in my book!

The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals said it had decided to stop serving what is considered one of the most prized Chinese delicacies over concern about the world’s declining shark population, the Standard said.

It’s a small step, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. More and more people, as well as businesses and organizations in China are wising up to the fact millions of sharks are slaughtered needlessly each year for a soup. They are realizing the damage that is being done to this species. Kudos to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals for making this decision!

Now if only the Hong Kong Government joins this trend by not serving the dish during banquets for visiting dignitaries, and prohibits it’s officials from doing the same, it will be a big step in the right direction.
