Do you know this man? He profits from Shark Finning on a global level

Photobucket
Jack Ma

His name is Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba.com, which is one of the worlds largest web suppliers of dried shark fins. Although many online retailers and distributors have recently refused to deal in the immoral shark fin trade and removed them from their product listings, Alibaba.com has refused to follow suit.

This man, along with his business partners involved in the day to day operations of Alibaba.com must be made to understand that his decision to continue to broker the sale of dried shark fins and related products is not viewed as a responsible decision by millions of concerned people around the world. The practice of shark finning must be stopped, and the role Mr. Ma and Alibaba.com play a large role in it’s continuation.

I ask all of my readers to let their voices be heard and sign a petition demanding Alibaba.com to stop their involvement in this immoral and illegal trade. You can sign the petition here. I would also ask that you write to Alibaba.com and let your voices be heard. E-Mail Here.

Thank you for your help in stopping this barbaric, immoral and illegal activity. The ocean’s shark populations will thank you for it.

Stop Distribution of Shark Fins
Dear Sirs.
On behalf of those undersigned concerned about our oceans and oceanic predators we are protesting Alibaba.com as the promoter of sellers, importers and exporters of SHARK FINS. This action is taken in view of the fact that ALIBABA is one of the world’s foremost web suppliers of dried SHARK FINS.

The practice of shark finning is causing huge incentive for the unsustainable and often illegal removal of shark populations world wide. Removing sharks from the oceans will result in an ecological imbalance and is causing irreversible damage to the marine ecosystem. Finning sharks and discarding the body is a brutal practice and is taking food from the mouths of poor nations who fish for sharks.

The profiteering driven by the demand for shark fin soup is unconscionable, and any consumer of shark fin soup, without knowledge of the source of the shark fin is criminal by association. It is for this reason that this Organization and its members will be taking the following actions:
1) Global Boycott of the ALIBABA Company.

2) Global Boycott to any Importer or Exporter that deals with Alibaba.

3) Global Boycott to any shop, outlet or restaurant that offer shark fins.

4) Global Boycott of all known Shark Fin Suppliers.

We will also be spreading the word to all our contacts via the media and the Internet.

More information about Shark Finning can be seen at

www.sharkmans-world.org/sos.htm and www.sharkstewards.com, or see the film Sharks: Stewards of the Reef.

Yours respectfully

MSNBC Anchor refuses to report on Paris

Just when you thought the media had their priorities all screwed up, Mika Brzezinski, an MSNBC news anchor proves otherwise.

Hot on the heels of CNN bumping an interview with Michael Moore in order to interview Paris Hilton after she was released from “prison”, Mika Brzezinski flat out refused to report the story as the lead in. And rightfully so! I fail to see the public’s fascination about Paris Hilton in the news. Why is she newsworthy? What has she done positive for anybody? Is she a spokeswoman for a just cause? Is she fighting to right a wrong? Is she on the verge of a medical breakthrough that will eradicate one of mankind’s deadliest diseases? Does she stand for anything worthwhile to humankind at all? What makes an interview with her more important than Michael Moore, or anybody else worthwhile for that fact? Does she really deserve to be the lead in story of a news broadcast? I think not.

Thank you Mika for putting the priorities in the proper order during your newscast.

Migaloo more important than military exercises

Migaloo, the albino humpback whale has caused the Australian Defense Force to move future military exercises away from Queensland’s Shoalwater Bay area. Now that’s respect!

Migaloo has been spotted swimming towards Shoalwater Bay, and there are fears sonar equipment used in naval exercises could cause him, or other whales, to beach. For those of you that don’t know about Migaloo, he is the only documented white humpback whale in the world and he calls the waters around Australia and Antarctica his home.

The name Migaloo comes from the Australian Aboriginal word meaning “White Fellah.” He even has his own website, which can be seen here.

The Government of Australia has recognized this magnificent creature’s migratory path and is taking steps to not interfere with it, which should be applauded by all.

Some things never change. Bush, Cheney and China

Ever notice that there seems to be a recurring theme to the headlines in each day’s newspapers?

If it’s not Bush declaring “Executive Privilege” about one thing or another, it’s Cheney running roughshod over the laws and Constitution to cover his ass for one thing or another. Then there’s China.

The Chinese system of checks and balances, or the lack thereof continues to make the headlines on a regular basis. Like the two above examples, these stories are getting old and worn out, which is essentially saying it’s time to fix the problems, not just talk about fixing them!

Once again, the safety of China’s food exports has come under scrutiny because of harmful drugs and food additives found in the exported foods which were tested before entering the United States.

Today the FDA again banned the importation of Chinese farm-raised catfish, shrimp, basa, dace, and eel because they contained nitrofuran, malachite green, and fluoroquinolone, which the FDA said when used in food animals may increase antibiotic resistance to this critically important class of antibiotics.

First it was the pet food, then toothpaste, seafood, toys containing lead paint, then seafood again that China continues to send out to the world! This has got to stop.

Bottom line is, is if it says “made in China”, or “product of China”, and it’s meant to be taken internally, run like hell!

Taiwan to ban whale shark trade

As of today, Taiwan will ban the sale of products from Whale Sharks, including whale shark meat which is considered a delicacy.

Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture has announced that no further fishing of the whale shark will be allowed from next year.

Under the current ban, fishermen are obliged to return caught whale sharks to the ocean, whether the fish is dead or alive. Violators may face imprisonment or a fine.

Kudos to Taiwan for enacting this law, and abiding by the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Too bad you couldn’t have delayed the sale of the two whale sharks to the Georgia Aquarium until this law was passed, then you would have saved two more whale sharks. But better late than never.

Are you listening China?
