Those of us that are football fans know Michael Vick as a fleet footed quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, but that’s about it. He can scramble, no doubt about that, but he can’t pass the ball consistently well enough to be called a first rate quarterback. But that’s not what this story is about.

Vick has many faces. There’s Michael Vick the Quarterback (or shall we say the ex-Quarterback), then there’s Michael Vick, aka “Ron Mexico” the alleged herpes spreader. Click here for a laugh at his press release concerning “his friend”. Now there’s Michael Vick, aka Ookie the “competitive dogfighting” ring leader.

Vick and three others were charged with competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting and conducting the enterprise across state lines. Vick’s initial hearing and arraignment have been set for July 26, the same day the Falcons begin training camp.

The operation was centered at a property Vick owned in Surry County, which not surprisingly he claims to know nothing about!

About eight young dogs were put to death at the Surry County home after they were found not ready to fight in April 2007, the indictment said. They were killed “by hanging, drowning and/or slamming at least one dog’s body to the ground.”

“Some of the grisly details in these filings shocked even me, and I’m a person who faces this stuff every day,” Goodwin said. “I was surprised to see that they were killing dogs by hanging them, and one dog was killed by slamming it to the ground. Those are extremely violent methods of execution, “ they’re unnecessary and just sick.”

Local authorities have been investigating since an April 25 drug raid at the property. On June 7, officials with the Department of Agriculture with help from state police executed their own search warrant and found the remains of seven dogs.

This indictment spells “Bad Newz” (also the name of his illegal dogfighting kennel operation) for Vick as a professional football player, and a human being.

Sounds like another tenant will be crawling under the rock of obscurity very soon.
