Gonzales is a liar, and has to go

Alberto Gonzales has caught himself in his own web of lies. As with all liars, sooner or later they can’t remember which lies they’ve told to cover up previous lies and they end up falling face first into the shit pile they’ve created. Well, Abu is up to his bottom lip in shit.

As reported in the NY Times, July 25, 2007:

At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Mr. Gonzales repeatedly testified that the subject of the emergency meeting on March 10, 2004, was not the terrorist surveillance program (aka the TSP), which allowed the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on suspects in the United States without receiving court approval.

Instead, he said, the meeting focused on another intelligence program he would not describe.

But a four-page memorandum from the national intelligence director’s office, obtained by The Associated Press, shows that the White House briefing was about the surveillance program.

What makes it even worse, is that when asked for a comment Wednesday, a Justice Department spokesman, Brian Roehrkasse, said Mr. Gonzales “stands by his testimony.”

The gun is smoking! What else is it going to take before this band of liars, crooks, and thieves get booted out of the Whitehouse?

Japanese Whalers are just plain stupid, period

The so called “Institute of Cetacean Research”, Japan’s name given to their Commercial Whaling Fleet has reported that almost all of the mature female minke whales they killed in Antarctic waters last season were pregnant.

This, they claim using their twisted, distorted logic is “good news”, because it supports their argument that the population is strong enough to allow a return to commercial whaling.

They proudly proclaim that 91.6%, or 262 of the 286 mature minkes taken during the hunt last year, were pregnant.

“Almost all of the whales are becoming pregnant each year. This is good news. This is great. It shows that the Antarctic minke population is increasing rapidly,” the ICR’s Glenn Inwood said today.

Someone needs to smack these Japanese Whalers up side the head with an abacus and make them understand that the world sees through their thinly veiled smokescreen of “taking whales for science”, is just a cover for their commercial whaling practices. And also explain to the world how they figure the minke whale population is growing when almost 92% of the whales they destroyed in the name of “science” were pregnant?

Once again, I call on the Government of Australia to put an end to the Japanese “scientific whaling charade.”

Discovery Channel responds to Open Letter re: Shark Week

Dear List members and Friends. As you all know, less than 48 hours ago, Ila sent out the Letter to Discovery Channel. Here is an update of the events that followed. Within 12 hours, I had the first response. I received an email from Katherine Nelson at Discovery. She thanked us for the letter and told me that Discovery would be very happy to discuss the issue and she asked me for my personal phone number.

I immediately wrote her back and thanked her for the fast response. A few hours later I received another email, this time from Jeff Hasler, Senior Vice President of Development and Production. He thanked me for my response to Katharine’s letter and told me that he would like to call me later.

This afternoon at about 3.30pm my time, Jeff Hasler phoned me and we talked for around 45 minutes. He was very keen to discuss the issues we had raised in the letter and also agreed on quite a few of the points. We talked about the problems that sharks face as far as finning, habitat destruction…etc….. and we also talked about the media image in general. I told Jeff that we all understand that Discovery needs the ratings and for this you need the drama and the action, and that we do not have any problems with Discovery showing a few interviews with shark attack survivors, as long as these are balanced out with scientific research and conservation issues. Action does not always have to be in the form of human victims.

We all know that sharks are predators and their hunting techniques on their own are also awesome to watch. We also discussed shark finning and shark research issues in detail. Jeff is a guy with a hell of a personality and we both share the same views and we are both very confident that together we can come up with some great projects for future Shark Weeks.

Jeff promised me that Discovery Channel is there to listen to our views and he wants to take this to the next level. We will be having further discussions to find out what topics we can explore together and than we will also set up a meeting between a small select group from Shark-L and Discovery Channel. During our talk Jeff told me that I have already given him two great ideas to work on…. and…… ooops better not let the proverbial cat out of the bag yet. Jeff and Discovery Channel made my day and I can promise that together, we are going to make a better future for the Sharks.

Thank you to everyone that was involved in this. please feel free to spread and publish this email.

Yahoo’s 1 Billion Dollar Investment in “Blood Diamonds”

That, according to Patric Douglas, CEO of Sharkdiver.com is the investment Yahoo made in online shark fin broker Alibaba.com, when it bought a 40% stake in Jack Ma’s company in 2005.

Watch the video in which Patric addresses the Yahoo and Alibaba.com relationship and how it’s decimating the world’s shark populations.

I couldn’t agree more with Patric’s assessment. Blood Diamonds indeed!

Maybe its time we remind Yahoo of it’s self proclaimed “value to community”:
“We share an infectious sense of mission to make an impact on society and empower consumers in ways never before possible. We are committed to serving both the Internet community and our own communities.

Feel free to contact them and let them know the impact they are making on society by their relationship with Alibaba.com of the marketing of shark fins over the borderless internet is a negative one.

Did you sign the Stop Distribution of Shark Fins to Alibaba.com yet? If not, click here.

How many of his feet can Gonzales fit into his mouth at once?

In another extremely painful to watch testimony from Alberto Gonzales today before the Senate Judiciary Committee, he once again has proven his incompetence as the AG.

Blood is still dripping from my ears after today’s grilling of Abu by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) about a memo signed by Gonzales in May, 2006 giving the Vice President’s office, and staff authority to discuss cases with Justice Department officials.

Gonzales looked like a worm on a hook as Whitehouse questioned him:

Sen. Whitehouse: “What-on-earth business does the Office of the Vice President have in the internal workings of the Department of Justice with respect to criminal investigations, civil investigations, and ongoing matters?”

Gonzales: “As a general matter, I would say that’s a good question.”

Sen. Whitehouse: “Why is it here, then?”

Gonzales: “I”d have to go back and look at this.”

“The memo that has your signature makes it worse,” Whitehouse said. As Whitehouse proceeded with his questioning, Gonzales admitted of his own memo, “I must say I’m troubled by this.”

For somebody who wants to “clean up the Justice Department’s image”, it seems pretty unlikely when he resembles a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming train as he stares at a memo with his own signature on it and can’t remember what it means!

Get a load out of his testimony, but don’t think about it too much or else you’re likely to burst your ear drums with a blunt object!
