Meet the New AG, He’s the Same as the Old AG

Today we were reminded again how much the criminality of the Bush Administration has permeated to every dark, dank corner of his Politburo.

Today, Attorney General Michael Mukasey, rejected the House’s contempt citations against Josh Bolton and Harriet Miers, saying they committed no crime when they ignored Congress’s subpoenas in the U.S. attorney scandal.

So by his own authority Mr. Mukasey has promoted his job title to the nation’s ‘top cop’ AND top judge and jury of this country! He seems to suffer from the same mental delusion that most of Bush’s Administration does too, and that’s believing that not only are they above the law, but they are the law!

Fortunately, the newly spined Speaker of the House has plan ‘B’ ready:

“By ordering the U.S. Attorney to take no action in response to congressional subpoenas, the Bush Administration is continuing to politicize law enforcement, which undermines public confidence in our criminal justice system.

“Anticipating this response from the Administration, the House has already provided authority for the Judiciary Committee to file a civil enforcement action in federal district court and the House shall do so promptly. The American people demand that we uphold the law. As public officials, we take an oath to uphold the Constitution and protect our system of checks and balances and our civil lawsuit seeks to do just that.”

The Bushies are playing with fire by making up rules as they go along. What kind of precedent is the AG setting by telling those around him and those that come after him it is OK to ignore Congressional subpoenas? Thanks to Bush and his merry band of criminals that this country has been subjected to for the past 7 years, this country’s system of checks and balances, the very foundation that our laws and rules have been based on, have been made a mockery of.

Remember the whining and moaning the Repubs did when Bill Clinton was getting serviced by Monica Lewinsky in the White House? Those hypocrites couldn’t wait to get the wheels of impeachment rolling against him. The wheels of justice moved pretty swiftly for them didn’t they? But now the Bushies have thrown a spanner into the gears of justice, and brought the machine to a halt.

It will take years, if not tens of years to repair the damage these self serving politicians have done to this country. Unfortunately, we still have 325 more days before the fumigation can begin!

Are You on the ‘List’ Yet?

More that 900,000 people are currently listed as suspected terrorists on the US government’s “do not fly” list, and that number will grow to beyond 1 million by summer, says the American Civil Liberties Union.

This is ridiculous! Is the Government’s ‘no fly’ list a product of paranoia or bumbling bureaucratic incompetence? With so many names on the list, how can it be effectively monitored? You might be on the list, hell my apple pie baking grandmother might be on the list for all I know!

As it stands right now, the list doesn’t seem to be under any scrutiny at all. People’s names just seem to be added to the list for shits and giggles! According to the ACLU’s ‘watch list counter’ web site, it lists some pretty prominent and not so prominent names who are not allowed to fly into this country. Some of the more notable ‘no flyers’ include:
Evo Morales, president of Bolivia.
Representative John Lewis (D, Georgia)
U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy (D, Mass.)
Major General Vernon Lewis (Ret.)
Captain Robert Campbell, US Navy-retired
Rep. Don Young (R, AK)
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, D-CA

My favorites from this ‘no fly’ list include John William Anderson, who is 6 years old, and Marine Staff Sgt. Daniel Brown was blocked from flying while on his way home from an 8-month deployment in Iraq. He was listed as a suspected terrorist due to a previous incident in which gunpowder was detected on his boots, most likely a residue of a previous tour in Iraq.

And the not so notables who are included on the list, Saddam Hussein, 14 of the 19 dead hijackers from 9/11, Gary Smith, and John Williams, David Nelson, and Sister Anne McPhee.

So before you pack up the family to head off to the airport for your vacation to Wally World this summer, you’d better keep in mind that you play poker with Gary Smith, and you use the telephone to order in from your favorite ethnic restaurant twice a month.

Bush’s Top Money Man is Out of Touch Just Like His Boss

In a matter of 3 months the GDP growth rate dropped from 4.9% to a barely noticable 0.6%, and Bush and his cronies are telling us that the economy is not anywhere near stagflation. ‘Stagflation’ by definiton means, “a period of slow economic growth and high unemployment (stagnation) while prices rise (inflation).

Ummm, are they talking about the same economy as you and I are living in, or they talking about the utopia known as ‘Bushopia’?

0.6% growth rate can hardly be considered any growth at all. The Labor Department reported Thursday that new applications for unemployment insurance benefits rose by 19,000 to 373,000 last week, and the price of gasoline just keeps going skyward.

So just what, exactly is the Government’s definition of ’stagflation’! Because from where I’m sitting, we’re well past the stagflation point, and getting ready to plummet over the cliff called recession!

The Real Issue: Protecting the “Deep Pockets” Telecom Companies

Each and every time President Bush tries to persuade Congress to pass his version of the FISA bill, giving immunity to the telecom companies who spied on us, it becomes more and more clear as to his real motives. He warns of impending terrorist threats to the country if the bill doesn’t get passed immediately, but his real concern is protecting the companies that broke the the law, and those would be the telecoms.

He has lied to the people of this Country from day 1 with little concern or regard of the consequences because he is after all above the law. But now that it has become obvious that he has lied to a much more powerful and influencial force in this country, that of the “deep pocketed” telecom industry, he’s looking like a worm on a hook as he tries to squirm his way out of this one.

Bush made a promise that he couldn’t keep, and that was telling the telecoms “that their assistance was legal and vital to national security.” It may have been vital, but it sure wasn’t legal. If it was legal, as the President insists, then why is he pushing for immunity?

He’s pushing for immunity so the same “deep pocketed” telecom companies that helped him break the law in the first place, will help him, and his successor break the law in the future. And one also has to take note, that the telecom companies have deep pockets for a few reasons. The most obvious is they spend a ton of money wining and dining and otherwise lobbying politicians in Washington for preferential treatment. You think all that money that is spent on lobbying politicians doesn’t have any strings attached?

No, George W. is feeling the heat from the deep pockets that helped put him power. Passing the FISA bill has nothing to do with protecting America against terrorists. It has everything to do with protecting George W. from the telecoms!

McCain Hated by the Hateful

John McCain doesn’t have what it takes to be loved by the hateful. It’s pretty bad when the people you need to love you turn out to hate you instead. This is the predicament McCain finds himself in after repudiating comments by the right wing hate radio host bill Cunningham.

Bill Cunningham’s hate radio fraternity circled the wagons for him after McCain “threw him under the bus” for apologizing for his rant against Democratic Senator Barrack Obama yesterday.

You just gotta love a right wing talk radio host under the bus!

But there’s more to this story. Not only is Cunningham pissed at McCain for publicly denouncing his tirade, but he has jumped ship and said he will endorse Hillary Clinton for President! This is a good thing for McCain, but bad for Hillary, very bad for Hillary indeed!
