Sex, Lies, and Politicians. Add Spitzer to the List of Shame

Another politician gets caught doing something that he shouldn’t be doing. This time its New York Governor Eliot Spitzer who, court documents show, has been involved in a prostitution ring. Another politician getting busted for extra marital sexual adventures! What’s with these people?

The details are still coming out, but the long and short of it is Spitzer, a.k.a “Client 9″, paid a woman $4,300 to meet him in Washington, D.C, for a few hours of “riding the hobby horse!” You can get the rest of the sordid details over at the smokinggun.com

My point here is why do politicians think that they can get away with this sort of sexual behavior? Why do they think it is OK to be a sexual deviant just because they hold public office? Not just Spitzer, but all of them, Craig, Clinton and the rest. And while were at it why don’t we throw in the television preacher crowd as well?

Is it the power, the ego, or stupidity that somehow gets in their heads to commit adultery on their significant others? We know for a fact that in Spitzer’s case, stupidity played a major role in his decision. $4,300 for an hour of sex? Yup, he’s definitely stupid paying that kind of money for something he could have gotten for free, if he only decided to go home instead of to a Washington hotel! I wonder if he feels that it was worth it?

What’s even more appalling than his sexual exploits with a prostitute was his news conference he held after the story broke:

“We sought to bring real change to New York, and that will continue,” he said. “Today I want to briefly address a private matter. I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family, and that violates my — or any — sense of right and wrong.

“I apologize first and most importantly to my family, I apologize to the public to whom I promised better,” Spitzer continued. “I do not believe that politics in the long run is about individuals. It is about ideas, the public good and doing what is best for the state of New York. I have disappointed, and failed to live up to the standard I set for myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family. I will not be taking questions, thank you very much. I will be reporting back to you in short order.”

That’s it? “I will be reporting back to you in short order,” is all he has to say at the end of his press conference? How about, “Seeing as I have betrayed your trust as your public servant, and I know that there is nothing I can do now or in the future to erase the mistrust that I have created by my very poor judgment, I now announce that the proper thing for me to do is resign as Governor of New York. And as a private citizen, I will ask that you respect my privacy during the coming months as I will undoubtedly be going through divorce proceedings. Thank You.”

His resignation is the least the people of New York should expect, and the House is the least his wife should expect, and a whole pile of money too seeing as he has proven he doesn’t know how to spend it wisely anyway!

  1. Politicians and preachers behave much the same way as other, more ordinary, people but they get to be on TV when they get caught cheating. In the final analysis these are ordinary cussed humans like the rest of us. - sometimes more like the Jerry Springer crowd than we expect.

  2. Your right. I guess it’s the money thing that really sets us all apart. Politicians and TV Preachers don’t think twice about spending $4,300 for sex, whereas the rest us ‘ordinary’ people would use the money to buy a box of KD and a tank of gas!

  3. Hey, “Spitz Happens!”

  4. Some would say he even got screwed!

  5. Interstate commerce laws are pretty fierce. It is a pity he will probably resign. Eliot Spitzer has been a great public figure. I’m sure many large targeted businesses will be happy to be rid of him.
