Iraq Open-Ended Commitment Means Forever
As just reported in The Guardian, a draft agreement between the United States and Iraq shows that the U.S. military operation/occupation in Iraq is open-ended. Well, there you have it, McCain’s 100 year occupation!
The Guardian noted that the draft framework agreement is designed to replace the current United Nations mandate, which expires at the end of the year.
According to the Guardian:
the agreement allows the United States to “conduct military operations in Iraq and to detain individuals when necessary for imperative reasons of security” without including a time limit.
It also does not put any limits on the number of American forces allowed in Iraq, the weapons they can use, the legal status of US troops in Iraq or the powers they hold over Iraqi citizens.
It also includes the agreement that the “US does not seek to use Iraq territory as a platform for offensive operations against other states.”
Well now that the cat is out of the bag in terms of Bush and McCain wanting an everlasting U.S. military presence in Iraq, maybe they could answer one simple question for us. Who, exactly is the enemy that requires our military their indefinitely? Or is it a much bigger target in the area, say Iran?
Before this story was reported in the Guardian, Couchmouse’s Corner laid out this scenario for us to consider.
