McCain’s “Choose to Succeed” Fairy Tale

Every time McCain talks about the war in Iraq, he’s got to tell it like a fairy tale. It’s starting to piss me off!

He’s got the same tone, the same inflection that one would have when telling a bedtime story to their child!

It’s a war John, it’s not some “once upon a time there lived a very mean people…”! Quit talking to us like we’re 5 years old!

Sen. Graham Has Man-Crush on Petraeus and Crocker

Oh F**K! If I had the power and the authority to make rules in this government, the first one I’d institute is “No Man-Crushes on government time! Save it for after work when you are cheering on your favorite steroid laden baseball player!

Sen. Lindsay Graham, today during his Q&A time with Gen. David Petraeus, and Ambassador Ryan Crocker had a very hard time concealing his love, respect, and admiration for the two, that I’m pretty sure he needed a cold shower after the session!

Instead of using his time constructively to ask important questions about the military and political situation in Iraq, the Republican Senator from South Carolina decided instead to show his love for Petraeus and Crocker, and do a little cheer leading number he’s been working on.

First the love from Sen. Graham:

Thank you, both of you, well done. You know, according to some, we should fire you. It sounds like, that everything is just — really nothing good has happened in the last year and this is a hopeless endeavor.

Well, I beg to differ. If I could promote you to five stars, I would. And if I could — I don’t know where to send you. You’ve been to every bad place there is to go, so I’d send you to a good place, Ambassador Crocker.

I cannot tell you how proud I am of both of you.

Then the cheer leading from Sen. Graham:

al-Qaeda cannot stand the surge. If you put a list of people who wanted us to leave, the number one group would be al-Qaeda, cause you’ve been kicking them all over Iraq.

Disgusting and pitiful!

What Do The Troops Want, Stay in Iraq, Or Come Home?

In a report by ABC News, reporter Martha Raddatz asked American soldiers what issues are most important to them when looking at the presidential candidates. The troops were asked their opinions only moments after Vice President Dick Cheney addressed the soldiers during his recent trip to Iraq.

Not surprising, even after Cheney’s “rousing” speech, the majority of troops interviewed said they would vote for either Clinton or Obama. Why? Because the troops want to come home!

PFC Jeremy Slate said he supported Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., because of his stated intention to pull out of Iraq right away.

“That would be nice,” Slate said, “I’d like to be home, yea.”

Let the politicians talk all they want, but it’s time to bring our troops home!

Iraq Open-Ended Commitment Means Forever

As just reported in The Guardian, a draft agreement between the United States and Iraq shows that the U.S. military operation/occupation in Iraq is open-ended. Well, there you have it, McCain’s 100 year occupation!

The Guardian noted that the draft framework agreement is designed to replace the current United Nations mandate, which expires at the end of the year.

According to the Guardian:

the agreement allows the United States to “conduct military operations in Iraq and to detain individuals when necessary for imperative reasons of security” without including a time limit.

It also does not put any limits on the number of American forces allowed in Iraq, the weapons they can use, the legal status of US troops in Iraq or the powers they hold over Iraqi citizens.

It also includes the agreement that the “US does not seek to use Iraq territory as a platform for offensive operations against other states.”

Well now that the cat is out of the bag in terms of Bush and McCain wanting an everlasting U.S. military presence in Iraq, maybe they could answer one simple question for us. Who, exactly is the enemy that requires our military their indefinitely? Or is it a much bigger target in the area, say Iran?

Before this story was reported in the Guardian, Couchmouse’s Corner laid out this scenario for us to consider.

Another Senseless Gun Tragedy. When Will it End?

Guns, especially handguns are being an all too familiar word in today’s headlines. Shootings in schools being the most disturbing. But what’s more disturbing is when the shooting involves a child. This type of tragedy is 100% preventable, but sadly still happens all too often.

As a gun owner myself, I take the responsibility of owning a gun very seriously, and I am very outspoken about those that are less responsible around these weapons. I wrote an article a while back discussing my views on why people would want to get their weapons custom painted pink with the “Hello Kitty” logo emblazoned on the stock. Over 100 people commented on the article, and not one of them could I post up for reasons ranging from “very” bad spelling to threats of what a certain type of gun would look like in a certain part of my body, to just threats in general. All this told me was that there are some people who need to learn to spell better, and others that are very passionate about their guns, and that’s all well and fine.

Whether you collect firearms of every type, and caliber, or just own one for personal reasons, it doesn’t matter to me. What does matter to me is when a little girl accidentally shoots herself with a gun she finds in her parent’s bedroom that has not been stored correctly or safely. This kind of shit is inexcusable!

Do I feel bad for the little girl’s parents? Of course I do, because they did not ever intend for their little girl to find the weapon in the first place, but she did. And now the little girl is in critical condition fighting for her life in a hospital in Michigan. This tragedy was so preventable, but sadly it still happened.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this family, and I hope for the best for the little girl’s recovery.

As I’ve said before, I’m not against responsible gun ownership, but I am against some of these people that have guns, that really have no right to own one. Case in point, the guy who used his gun to put a hole in his wall so he could finish installing his satellite dish. This stupid decision resulted in him killing his wife, because she was standing on the other side of the wall as he fired. This tragedy again was 100% preventable.
