Here I go, another rant about China again. My views have already been censored by their firewall, so one more rant about their political/environmental policies isn’t going to make a bit of difference anyway. It’s everybody else in the world that should sit up and take notice of what’s happening in China.
Let”s see, where to start? First, there’s Shark Finning. Then there is the extraordinary amount of pollutants being dispensed into the atmosphere and water systems as China struggles to keep up with it’s booming economy. The deadly H5N1 bird flu originated in China, thank you very much. Then there is the melamine laced wheat gluten that was imported to make pet food, which caused a reported 4,000 dog and cat deaths in the U.S. alone. And don’t forget about the imported poisoned medicine from China as well. And if that weren’t enough, how about the imported Catfish that upon testing contained fluoroquinolones, and antibiotic which was banned by the FDA in 1997.
Now to add to China’s already questionable safety of it’s food industry, the Ministry of Commerce has issued new rules for pig slaughterhouses to protect people’s health and the quality of it’s pork products.
Industry officials said on Wednesday melamine scrap was unlikely to be linked to the unusually serious outbreak of PRRS, or blue ear disease, among pigs in China. Yeah, right! Like Chinese officials can be trusted at this stage of the game!
About one million pigs have died from a variation of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus in an outbreak that began in May last year.
The virus is unlikely to spread to humans, leading veterinarians said on Wednesday.
This statement was followed by a comment from Wang Ruojun, who teaches animal nutrition at the College of Animal Science and Technology of the China Agricultural University, saying “The worst case is that they mix the melamine scrap, of which some elements could be poisonous to the animals.”
So which is it China, Safe or unsafe? Do you really know? Do you really care? For a country that is hosting the World”s most prestigious sporting event in a year, they have a lot of cleaning up to do in their own backyard!
Personally, I like to gamble, but only in Vegas! It seems as of late the odds are stacked against you if you consume anything that comes from China.
