Bush: Bomb Iran and face impeachment

Sen. Joe Biden, the loquacious long-shot Democratic presidential candidate, warned President Bush Thursday that he would move for impeachment if the president unilaterally authorized a military strike against Iran.

IF? You mean Bush hasn’t done enough harm to this country and the Constitution that only now impeachment awaits him if and only if he bombs Iran? Spare me the rhetoric Joe! “Elect me; I’ll impeach Bush and Cheney. Once we’re in power, we’ll stop the war in Iraq.”

“Impeachment is on the table.” “Impeachment is off the table.” The words just keep coming and coming, because that’s all they are, words. I find it disturbing that “impeachment” threats are being bandied about as election promises, especially when that promise has a string attached to it. Why is it only OK to impeach the President after he bombs Iran? Isn’t lying the country into an illegal war with Iraq enough? Isn’t the destruction of the Constitution enough?

No Joe, your warning to impeach Bush if he bombs Iran is no different than a parent trying to discipline an already spoiled child. They are just words, because the child already knows that you won’t follow up on your threat. The child will throw a temper tantrum, and the parent will say or do whatever he wants just to shut him up. Just ask Nancy Pelosi, she knows all about caving in to spoiled children!

Cheney Impeachment Hearings to be Scheduled Immediately

In an email sent to his constituents today, Rep. Robert Wexler is taking the next step to getting Vice President Cheney to answer for his actions.

Wexler, a member of the House Judiciary Committee is calling for the committee “to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months.”

Following is the full text of his letter:

As a person who supports holding this Administration accountable for their deceptive actions, you may be interested to know about the recent votes in the House regarding H.Res. 333, “Impeaching Richard B. Cheney, Vice President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors.”

I share your belief that Vice President Cheney must answer for his deceptive actions in office, particularly with regard to the preparations for the Iraq war and the revelation of the identity of covert agent Valerie Plame Wilson as part of political retribution against her husband. That is why I voted against the motion to table debate on H.Res. 333.

Along with only 85 other Democrats, I opposed tabling the measure and supported beginning immediate debate and a vote on the Cheney impeachment resolution. The vote on tabling the Kucinich resolution was rejected, and the House subsequently voted to refer the matter to the Judiciary Committee.

Vice President Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration have demonstrated a consistent pattern of abusing the law and misleading Congress and the American people. We see the consequences of these actions abroad in Iraq and at home through the violations of our civil liberties. The American people are served well with a legitimate and thorough impeachment inquiry.

I will urge the Judiciary Committee to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months. Only through hearings can we bring begin to correct the abuses of Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration; and, if it is determined in these hearings that Vice President Cheney has committed High Crimes and Misdemeanors, he should be impeached and removed from office.

It is time for Congress to expose the multitude of misdeeds of the Administration, and I am hopeful that the Judiciary Committee will expeditiously begin an investigation of this matter.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns. I sincerely appreciate your input and hope that you will feel free to contact me anytime I may be of assistance to you. In addition, I hope you find my website (http://wexler.house.gov) a valuable resource in keeping up with events in Washington and in South Florida.

With warm regards, Congressman Robert Wexler

Let’s hope this starts something this time.

Nader: Bush and Cheney are so impeachable, we can’t impeach them

Ralph Nader was giving a speech on October 11 during a fundraiser for DemocracyRising. During the speech he tells of Democratic Congressman John Olver explain why Bush cannot be impeached.

Olver explains that if impeachment proceedings were started against Bush, he believes that Bush would begin a military attack against Iran then declare martial law.

Could this just be paranoia on the part of Congress, or is it something that could truly happen?

As Nader says, “If this is true, it’s a lot worse than we thought!”

Decide for yourself.

Bush shredding the Constitution

Two months after insisting that they would roll back broad eavesdropping powers won by the Bush administration, Democrats in Congress appear ready to make concessions that could extend some crucial powers given to the National Security Agency.

Administration officials say they are confident they will win approval of the broadened authority that they secured temporarily in August as Congress rushed toward recess. Some Democratic officials concede that they may not come up with enough votes to stop approval.

Although willing to oppose the White House on the Iraq war, they remain nervous that they will be called soft on terrorism if they insist on strict curbs on gathering intelligence.

A Democratic bill to be proposed on Tuesday in the House would maintain for several years the type of broad, blanket authority for N.S.A. eavesdropping that the administration secured in August for six months.

Remember the Constitution of the United States, the supreme law? Well say goodbye to it, because everyday for the past seven years it has been getting ripped to shreds. The Constitution of the United States of America lies bleeding on the floor.

Thanks to Bush, Cheney, and their stooge Abu they have managed to totally re-write Fourth Amendment, and nobody really seems to give a shit!

I for one am sick and tired of hearing the Democrats in Congress whine and moan that “they can’t get enough votes to stop approval” for bills that compromise the Constitution!

How about Article 2, Section 4 of the Constitution regarding Impeachment?
The article states:

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Is it only we the sheeple that seem to think that President Bush and Vice President Cheney are guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors?

And what about Congress and the Senate, are they not guilty of dereliction of duty by letting Bush, Cheney, and former AG Gonzales get away with destroying the Constitution for their own political gain and or enjoyment?

For the love of God, President Clinton got impeached because of a blow job! Are the travesties Bush and Cheney are committing on the laws of this land not far more serious?

If the members of Congress don’t, not can’t, but don”t stop the impending permanent shredding of the Fourth Amendment, it will be the end of what we once called, “the home of the free.”

This was once the law of the land. Is it gone forever?
